Bertrand Smith's studies in human geography focuses his photography on people's movement within and presence upon the built and natural environments.

Favouring a 4x5 large format camera, Bertrand works exclusively in an analogue workflow, developing the film and plates himself and making into traditional silver gelatin prints in his darkroom.

Thanks to his GIS training, his processes are scrutinzied under an analytical eye, and has developed a unique form of cartographic printing onto locally sourced wood.

Continuing with the analogue trend, he has also developed a line of handmade leather products.
